Services objectives

The objective of the IGAD service 2 is to provide to decision makers (IGAD secretariat, Ministries of Environment and Protection agencies mainly) a regularly updated tool to assess the state of IGAD Protected Areas (PA) and to monitor and prioritize them according to biodiversity values and threats.

The service includes all PAs in the IGAD region. A selection of a reduced number of PAs, based on prioritization criteria, is providing additional indices at a higher scale. The buffer zones are be part of the PAs analysis and monitoring (25 km around the PA, as commonly used).
